Gateway launch film

HDR UK

Health Data Research UK’s Gateway helps researchers find and access health data from across the UK, and had already supported hundreds of studies. With a new version co-created with researchers and data custodians, HDR UK needed a short film to reintroduce it to the research community.

The challenge

The film had two audiences: researchers and innovators who already knew the Gateway but hadn’t used it in a while, and those discovering it for the first time. The new version had changed a lot, with smarter search, richer data and access requests to multiple custodians from one place. The film had to show what was new, and give both groups a reason to try it.

The approach

We started with a story workshop with HDR UK’s team, building the story together around their audience and goals. The film opens with the problem every researcher knows: finding and accessing health data is slow and confusing. Then it follows the data itself, as dots of light that get stuck in a maze and then flow freely, showing the researcher’s journey through the new Gateway, step by step.
